The Neurodiagnostic Tech II role operates electroneurodiagnostic equipment to measure neural potentials for use by providers in diagnosing neurological outcomes. Collects EEG data for routine EEGs, Interventional Radiology, Evoked Potentials, Continuous EEG, and long term epilepsy monitoring in inpatient and outpatient settings.

 

  • ReQUIREMENTS:
    • Education: Graduate of a CAAHEP accredited Neurodiagnostic Technology Program and/or registered as a R.EEG-T, R.EPT CNIM, or CLTM by ABRET required.

    • Certification/Licensure: “See Education” Current BLS certification required or must obtain within six months of start date.

    •  Experience: One year of experience in neurodiagnostic field required. Individuals with an Associate’s Degree and/or allied healthcare experience and credentials may be considered at leader’s discretion and would be expected to obtain R.EEG.T credential within one year of employment. Demonstrates competency in all essential functions of Neurodiagnostic Tech I role

    • Additional Skills/Requirements Required: Proficient in Routine END monitoring and recording as well as LTM by documenting observation of 20 cases and completion of 20 cases while being observed

      Position Summary:

      The Neurophysiology Technician performs at least one modality in neurological testing such as EEGs, Evoked Potential Studies, Transcranial Doppler Ultrasonography and/or Nerve Conduction Studies in many patient areas. Assists in tasks related to department operations.

      Full Time, 80 Hours Per Pay Period, Day Shift

      Shift is Monday through Friday 7:00am -4:00pm. Rotating On-Call for night and weekend coverage with other staff

       

      • ReQUIREMENTS:

       

          • Accurately record electrical impulses from the brain and/or other neurophysiological signals
          • Abstract relevant information from the patient’s clinical record and obtain additional information by questioning.
          • Possess knowledge of calibration, use of and interface of all ancillary equipment.
          • Possess a working knowledge of basic neuro anatomy and physiology.
          • Possess a clear understanding of activation procedures and responses anticipated.
          • Perform general equipment maintenance procedures.
          • Possess a good working knowledge of equipment and its function and capabilities.

          • Possess knowledge of charging patients and processing paperwork.

          • Follows policies, procedures, and safety standards. Completes required education assignments annually. Works toward achieving goals and objectives, and participates in quality improvement initiatives as requested.

        POSITION SUMMARY:

        • Primary accountabilities:
        • Performs EEG studies appropriate to age and condition of patient according to lab protocols and standards. 
        • Acquires information and evaluates the patient prior to the procedure by reviewing patient’s medical record. 
        • Alerts Neurohospitalist and ICU team to the occurrence of non-convulsive and/or convulsive seizure activity. 
        • Effectively communicates with all patients, physicians, and staff, including any delays to care team (nursing staff, Neurologist, and supervisor). 
        • Follows American Clinical Neurophysiology Society (ACNS) guidelines. 
        • Comprehends anatomical correlation of EEG waveforms. 
        • Distinguishes normal adult EEG waveforms, variants and artifactual activity in the EEG record. 
        • Ensures all long-term monitoring EEGs are set-up to maintain skin integrity at electrode sites. 
        • Maintains flexibility to adapt to changes in workflow processes and fluctuations in patient volumes and staffing needs.

         

        qualifications:

        MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS 

        • Education: 
        • Associate degree or higher from an accredited college or university, and credential in an area of Neurodiagnostic specialty from the appropriate credentialing board,
        • OR Graduate of a Neurodiagnostic Technology program accredited by the committee on Accreditation for Education in Neurodiagnostic Technology (CoA-NDT) and by the commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP),                                                   
        • OR On-the-job training with one (1) year of acute clinical EEG experience.
        • Work Experience: At least one (1) year Neurodiagnostic Technologist experience.
        • Certification: 
        • ABRET Registered EEG Technologist, OR, ABRET registry obtained within two (2) years of transfer/hire. 
        • Current American Heart Association Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers.
        • Knowledge/Skills/Abilities: 
        • Ability to take call acknowledging emergency alerts within five (5) minutes and presenting to hospital within 60 minutes of alert.
        • Proficient in Microsoft Office – Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint.
        • Knowledge in routine and critical care EEG.
        • Ability to test in all patient populations; neonatal, pediatric and adults.
        • Ability to prioritize and multi-task.
        • Flexibility to meet variable shift and census needs.

         PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

        • Experience in other modalities of Neurodiagnostic testing including Nerve Conduction studies, Evoked Potentials and/or Transcranial Doppler studies is a plus 

         PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS 

        • Physically agile; requires walking, standing, running, bending, stooping, kneeling, climbing, or crouching majority of the shift.
        • Heavy work that frequently includes lifting or moving objects up to 100 pounds or more with or without assistance.

          Position Summary:

          The Neurodiagnostic Technologist III (IOM Tech) works closely with the Neurophysiologist during the surgical procedures to monitor and assess the functional integrity of the peripheral and/or central nervous system during vascular, orthopedic, and other neurosurgical procedures. The technologist must be able to work independently utilizing a variety of sophisticated instrumentation and applies valid clinical judgment in the performance of clinical neurophysiology procedures.

           

          • ReQUIREMENTS:
          • Perform routine neurodiagnostics including but not limited to Somatosensory Evoked Potential (SSEPs), Brainstem Auditory Evoked Potential (BAER), Transcranial Motors (TcMEP), Train of 4 (TO4), Electromyography (EMG), Triggered EMG, and Electroencephalogram (EEG). Comfortable performing multimodal monitoring including but not limited to complex spine, brain/brainstem, and vascular surgeries.
          • Assists with department projects including but not limited to research, database maintenance, and quality assurance. The technologist may be asked to head projects, taking a lead role in the maintenance and completion of neurophysiology task that aid the lab and/or the scientific community.
          • Prepare rooms before and after studies and/or procedures. Explains details of procedure to patients, in accordance with standards of practice as defined by Cedars-Sinai and applicable certifying or regulatory standards.
